The notes are up. Sorry to be so brief, but gotta run. Have a good holiday.

One month to winter

Getting chilly out (I love it). Good sleeping weather.

Notes for the week are uploaded. We will be having a quiz on Monday on all the material since the last exam. This would cover all gene expression (transcription, translation, mutations, etc.) and the bit we have had on viruses. Have a good weekend.

There are also a whole load of new movies on the subjects in the study tools area.

Exam4

Your latest scores for quiz and exam have been uploaded. That's four down, with one midterm to go...

Only 30 days left

Lecture notes have been uploaded. Enjoy the week off of lab.

Couldn't make it

Meant to get all the updating on Friday, as usual, but ended up in Zion National Park instead.

The test scores for exam 3 have been uploaded. Much better scores than all the complaining I heard would have had me believe...

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Oops

I left the quizzes sitting in my office. I'll have them graded early next week, but since you've already seen the answers you have a good idea of how you did anyway.

Due to the exam, and the notes from Monday already available there is nothing new this weekend.

Movies

One more week until mid-semester. Hard to believe.

Your exam scores have been uploaded, and I'm working on putting keys to previous exams. Its going to require a password, so remind me to give it to you in class on Monday.

I've completely forgotten about the movie section of the study tools. I've placed a bunch of movies from lecture and other sources in that section now. Later topics are not available just yet, but will be updated as we go along.

Would you like to get two free points* on your next quiz? If so, please participate in this survey of biology students. This has nothing to do with your grade and your name is only asked for so that I can give you credit. This is part of a research project being performed by a graduate student at UNLV. Many of the questions deal with your knowledge of topics such as HIV. Please just answer with what you know, it would only hurt the research for you to spend time looking up answers from some external source.

*not extra credit, but can replace questions you miss

Big day coming

The lecture notes have been uploaded. I've also got your quiz scores added to the grades section.

We will have an exam on Monday that covers the material on the cell, membranes and membrane transport. The format will be identical to the first one.

There is a big day coming up. No, I'm not talking about the exam on Monday (but that too). I mean election day. Are you registered? The deadline to register is THIS SATURDAY. Do it now.

Here's a little YouTube action. Its a bit too long, and kinda sassy, but entertaining.

(caution: some naughty words)

Goodbye September

Another month gone, I hope everyone is studying and keeping up.

The notes are online for the past week.

We will be having another quiz on Monday. It will only cover the chapter on cells, and cell structure. We'll save the membrane transport for the next exam or quiz.

Exam 1

Peeking at grade

The exam scores have been uploaded.

We'll have some discussion about the exam on Monday before the beginning of the next lecture.

Due to the exam, there aren't any new notes from Wednesday to add. Relax a little this weekend, but we will be moving fast, using the information from the past few weeks to build on new principles.

A bit late

Long day of meetings and then the ftp access to my website was down, sorry for the late update.

The notes are available now. I'll open up the grades section and be putting up your quiz scores later in the weekend.

Week 2 is over

The notes for Wednesday are up.

We will have our first quiz this coming Wednesday. Like all quizzes and exams make sure to bring a pencil and do not show up late. You cannot take the quiz if you miss it.

A few reminders. The labs start this coming week. Take the online quiz about the orientation and the pre-assessment on the lab site on WebCT. Please read the syllabus, announcements and schedule there before plaguing the instructors with questions.

Also, bring your accuplacer reading score sheet to your lab instructor for a FREE ten points in lab (easiest all semester.

Other than that, enjoy the weekend and get a head start on the material before things start to get really crazy.
